Surgical Services

We are dedicated to giving patients compassionate and safe care during surgery and recovery.

McPhillips Animal Hospital proudly offers quality surgical procedures for cats and dogs. Our surgeons have expert training and are always supported by registered veterinary technicians during surgeries. We hold ourselves to a high standard. You can be confident that the safety and comfort of your loyal companion is our main priority in the operating room.

What precautions make anesthesia safe for my cat/dog?

Prior to administering the drug, our team will perform a pre-anesthetic evaluation. We will screen your canine or feline pal for different health conditions with a blood test and physical examination. During these tests, we check if the liver and kidneys are in good shape and functioning well as they will break down and eliminate the anesthetic medication. If the results show that all is well, we go ahead with the procedure. Otherwise, we reschedule and treat the health problem differently. Once anesthesia is used, we monitor the patient the entire time. With the use of modern equipment, we continuously monitor the heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen levels, and temperature during the procedure. We will easily spot any changes and act swiftly to stabilize the patient. Our entire team is well-experienced and always learning about new techniques to limit possible complications. If you have questions regarding their upcoming procedure don’t hesitate to call us at 204-589-8381.

What surgeries are performed at your hospital?

Our veterinarians provide many surgical services at our clinic, ranging from routine to advanced procedures. Because we want to ensure our patients receive the best possible outcome, we occasionally refer them to specialists (board-certified veterinary surgeons) to perform complex operations when advanced equipment or training will be beneficial. We perform the following surgeries:

  1. Soft tissue
  2. Spays and neuters
  3. Dentistry

How long will it take my cat or dog to recover?

At McPhillips Animal Hospital, our goal is to ensure all of our patients recover well after having surgery. Recovery can last for 10-14 days with the use of pain medication, adequate rest, and sometimes rehabilitation. For some advanced procedures like orthopedic surgeries, it can take months for your cat or dog to recover. Regardless of how long the recovery is, our team will schedule follow-up visits and make themselves available to answer your concerns or questions.
